Yeah, Gewurztraminer is a fickle and tough variety, but worth every hassle if made into a certain wine style.

I started out my winery years ago aiming for premium Riesling production but wound up developing a Gewurztraminer following before I fell off the cliff–alone.

This is all very exciting. I know it is only Vinofiction, but I am very excited for Nick. Fermentation is fun; yeast selection is stimulating, monitoring the must daily is entertaining, even the ‘kick in the chest’ feeling of your first nose-full of CO2 is thrilling…purely for educational purposes of course.
However, what isn’t fun is harvesting Gewurtztraminer. It has to be the most objectional variety to pick, it has no peduncles, the fruit seemingly emanates directly out of the cane. Helped pick some Gewurtztraminer many years ago – haven’t drank it as a finished wine since. I’m still traumatised!

Well, at least Nick sold them I suppose.
In 2005, a bumper year in Napa, some wineries were just dropping their fruit on the ground. Of course we got free Merlot that year: the wine turned out jolly good!

Blood suckers are all around–and some of us are either too nice or too blinded by passion to realize it.
There was more than one situation here that attracted the vampires to small wineries.
I did one business partnership in my life and one semi-partnership–neither turned out well.

Phew! I know this is only Vinfiction, but I am so glad that Theresa could see, and talk some sense into Nick.
A good friend of mine recently lost his smallish vineyard in a personal/business deal turned sour…it’s so sad as it was his passion.
